'Lokmat' weekly was launched in 1918 to guide the freedom movement against the British rule. This weekly was named Lokmat by the national leader Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The British force closed the publication of this weekly. In 1953, late veteran freedom fighter Shri Jawaharlalji Darda alias 'Babuji' revived Lokmat and converted it into daily newspaper in 1971, as a secular newspaper to fight against the communal forces and took it to the new pinnacle of success.
Today, 'Lokmat' is the 2nd largest read regional newspaper in the country with total readership of 2.18 crore and No. 1 newspaper of Maharashtra and sixth largest of the country (Source: Indian Readership Survey 2019, Q-3). Lokmat is the largest publication house of Maharashtra and Goa with 18 editions, 57 sub-editions, and a widespread network of around 3,000 reporters and its presence in various fields such as TV, Films, Events and digital, 'Lokmat' is truly the 'Voice of Maharashtra and Goa'. Lokmat Media Group publishes 12 editions of 'Lokmat' (Marathi), 3 editions of 'Lokmat Samachar' (Hindi) and 3 editions of 'Lokmat Times' (English) and has a contained readership of more than 2.55 crores. 'Lokmat' launched its Delhi Edition in 2017 as the first broadsheet Marathi daily from the National Capital.
